Van Duzer Days NYC Street Festival 7/20 Staten Island NYC

Published by Marilyn Zayfert

This event takes a valuable public space – our City’s streets – and opens them up to people to play, walk, bike, and breathe. Summer Streets provides more space for healthy recreation and is a part of NYC’s greening initiative by encouraging New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation. Van Duzer Street, between Beach and Wright streets, will be closed to driving traffic on Saturdays, July 13th & 20th from 12pm until 7pm allowing pedestrians to enjoy a range of summer activities on an open city street free from cars. We will have live music all day starting at 1 p.m. until the event closes. Here is the line up for the day: 12:30pm - Yoga with Paulina Guerrera 1pm - 1:30pm Serg Naps 1:45-2:15pm Bran, Don & Dixie Bop 2:30- 3pm Cat Cosmai 3:15-3:45pm The Mick Watley Band 4 – 5pm Super Live Adventure Podcast 5:15 – 5:45pm Kilgore Trout is Dead 6 – 6:30pm Wahoo Skiffle Crazies Kids programs will also be offered through out the day as well as bike repair, and other recreational activities. The Van Duzer-Beach Street district in Stapleton is home to a thriving and growing community of more than a thousand artists. Recognized as the counter-cultural center of Staten Island, it has become a notable hub for live music and an incubator for new bands and innovative projects. The neighborhood attracts visual and performance artists, photographers, film makers, literati, and everything in between. The district’s commerce is comprised mostly of independently owned small businesses that work hand in hand with the local artists. The main businesses include: Full Cup, Vida Restaurant, Backslash Bomb Productions, Red Room Studio, Ira’s Curiosity Shop, Mood Swings Vintage Shop, Glen Glass, Los Catrachos Restaurant, American Homes Real Estate, and Silas' Unburied Treasures. We also work collaboratively with former block resident, Richmond Hood Company.
